For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7
I listened to these powerful words the other morning at MOPS, spoken by an amazing woman whose testimony touched my heart more than I could ever describe.
She discussed the struggles we face as moms living in this frightening world as we try to raise and guide our children along the path of righteousness.
The truth is, though, there is a lot to be afraid of.
Personally, I find myself fearful of a devastating tragedy taking place within my home.
I think about it every day.
Something may happen to my husband, one of my children, or even me.
We hear about these things daily, my family is not immune to the evil in this world.
But…my spirit is!
That is some great news, and it is something new I have discovered.
We all know there is evil everywhere we go, it will not go away.
However, our thoughts can be transformed into thoughts of joy and peace if we meditate on the words the Lord has given us.
II Timothy tells us that God has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.
That means that I can be free of those terrible thoughts.
It’s a battle between our minds and the evil one, what some call spiritual warfare and it takes place in all of us.
How do we defeat it?
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13
This explains that battle in our minds, the wrestling over what we think in the darkness.
We cannot be fearful, we have to be powerful.
Powerful enough to create a sound mind for ourselves to be able to live in peace.
When we live in peace, we can focus on what God has designed us for, the greatness He desires our lives to be.
Put on your armor and fight for your spirit.
Protect it daily!
God has a plan for you, for me, and for our precious families.
We can’t waste our time living in fear, we were made for more than that.
I pray that we, as moms, will have peaceful, loving thoughts today so that we can concentrate on the love of our children and the love of our Lord.
Don’t wait to take on this battle, you may miss out on something great!
