Resolutions.
We all make them.
Most of us fail at them.
I’ll be the first to admit that I have never stuck with a resolution longer than…ummm…January 14?
Pretty lame, at about 2 weeks, I stop because I’m bored with it already.
How about you?
I’ve known only ONE person in my life who has actually made it an entire year without giving in.
Just for fun, she decided to not eat one french fry for the entire year.
I witnessed her, multiple times, deny the most tempting, delicious McDonald’s fries.
I don’t have the self-control for that.
In fact, I don’t have the self-control for a lot of things.
Which is why I am vowing to NOT have a New Year’s Resolution this year!
But I’m not a complete party-pooper.
I am going to work on something this year.
Instead of a New Year’s Resolution, I am going to try to focus on my life ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Hakuna Matata, my friends.
My daughter reminded me of this today as she was singing while playing with her dolls.
I’ve been a big worrier pretty much all my life.
I worry about money.
I worry about my home.
My kids, my health, my own life…
And the list goes on.
Life has given me A LOT to worry about the past two years.
Lost jobs, more kids, changes in residence, new jobs, no money.
I have witnessed trial after trial for 2 straight years without seeing any end to our despair.
But one of the biggest blessings in the midst of all of this is that I have finally grasped the true meaning of what I told my kindergarten students every day.
You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!
Yep, I have no idea what this next year will bring.
I have no idea what my life will look like in six months.
Or even how tomorrow is going to pan out.
But I do know this, I have been given this life for two reasons.
To LOVE OTHERS and to HELP OTHERS.
Nothing else matters…at all.
One of my favorite verses comes from Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
If I continue on the path of following what is right, God will take care of the rest.
There is no need to worry for He has already overcome all of it.
So I guess I really do have a New Year’s Resolution.
In the New Year, I will worry about nothing and pray about everything.
Let’s see if I can make it past January 14, I have a pretty good feeling that I can
What is your resolution this year?
If you are a worry wart like I have been all these years, will you join me a worry-free year?
Peace I leave with you;my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27
Happy New Year!
