I always get laughed at when I struggle to move positions in front of a camera. I HAVE to be on my GOOD side.
My sister is the same way.
In fact, it’s become quite a laughing matter in our family since both of us happen to have the same good side…our left side.
When taking pictures together, one of us always has to have our “bad side” exposed, therefore, one of us is comfortable and the other is not.
But…this is no joke…and I’m about to prove it to ya!
Recently, my photographer friend, Nickole Drake, took some pretty amazing photos of my family.
She too, thought I was crazy when I laughed about my “bad side.”
Some people have very symmetrical faces and they photograph well at all angles.
I am NOT one of those people.
Take a look.
I manipulated one of the pictures Nickole took of me.
First, I took my good side (the left) and copied it to the other side of my face.
As you can see, it produced a very full looking face with nice bone structure and shadows.
Although, it looks very different from me, it’s still a nice looking face, right?
I then took my “bad side” (the right) and flipped it on over to the other side making it a very bad symmetrical photo!
There is no definition to my face and it looks very flat. Do you agree?
The last photo there is the original photo, the good and the bad all bundled up together to make “ME”
Now, this is not to say that I hate that side of my face…I’ve finally become quite comfortable and HAPPY with how God has made me.
But, we ALL have preferences, right?
I agonized over the photos Nickole took of me, not because of her talent, but because of my “issue.”
However, this is when you know you have found a good photographer…she made what I call my “bad side” beautiful!
I am in love with this photo and actually prefer it over some of the ones with my good side.
So…camera people…don’t be annoyed with someone who needs to find their “good side.”
Let them be so they can feel good about themselves.
And some advice for you asymmetrical faces like me…don’t hesitate to just TRY a photo every now and then with your “bad side.”
You may end up with an amazing photo like I did!
And if not, you can always DELETE!
